A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Webster County, including Preston, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Peachtree City, GA, effective today, October 8, 2026, at 2:52 PM EDT. This watch will remain in effect until 11:00 PM EDT.

Residents are advised to plan for hazardous wind with potential for 39 to 57 mph gusts. Efforts to protect property should be underway now to prepare for limited wind damage. Expect peak winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. Impacts could include damage to porches, awnings, and unanchored mobile homes, as well as broken tree limbs and scattered power outages.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with potential for moderate flooding rain. Peak rainfall amounts are forecast at 2-4 inches, with locally higher amounts. Emergency plans should include the potential for moderate flooding, and residents in flood-vulnerable areas should consider protective actions. Be prepared for possible evacuations and rescues. Heed any flood watches and warnings.

The situation is favorable for several tornadoes, with a few possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should prepare to relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly. Significant impacts are possible, including damage to homes, power loss, and dangerous projectiles.
