Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Webster County, Prepare for Hazardous Conditions
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Webster County by the NWS, warning of hazardous winds, potential flooding, and possible tornadoes; residents should prepare immediately.
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Webster County, including Preston, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Peachtree City GA, effective immediately as of October 9 at 4:43 AM EDT. Residents should prepare for hazardous wind, potential flooding, and the possibility of tornadoes.
Wind speeds are forecast to reach 15-25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes is possible, along with downed tree limbs and scattered power outages. Efforts to protect property should be underway now, and preparations must be completed before winds become hazardous.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 2-4 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Moderate flooding is anticipated, which may lead to evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries could overflow, and streets may become impassable. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life.
The situation is favorable for tornadoes, with a potential for several, some possibly intense. Emergency plans should account for tornadoes with larger damage paths. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should seek safer shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if one is issued.
This Tropical Storm Watch is effective until October 9 at 12:45 PM UTC. For more information on family emergency plans, visit ready.gov/hurricanes. For local weather conditions and forecasts, visit weather.gov/atlanta.
