Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Wayne County: Prepare for Winds & Flooding
A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Wayne County, with residents urged to prepare for hazardous winds and moderate flooding from today, October 8, at 4:04 PM CDT, until October 9, 2026, at 12:15 AM UTC.
Wayne County residents are advised to complete preparations for hazardous wind and moderate flooding as a Tropical Storm Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL, effective today, October 8, at 4:04 PM CDT. The watch is in effect until October 9, 2026, at 12:15 AM UTC.
A potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph is forecast, with peak gusts up to 40 mph. Residents should plan for limited wind damage, including potential issues with porches, awnings, and unanchored mobile homes, as well as scattered power outages. Remaining efforts to protect property should be completed immediately. Move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin.
Moderate flooding rain is also expected, with 1-3 inches of rainfall, and locally higher amounts. This could lead to moderate rainfall flooding, potentially prompting evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may swell, and floodwaters could impact structures and roads. Heed any flood watches and warnings issued. Consider protective actions if you are in an area vulnerable to flooding.
Tornadoes are not expected at this time. For local information, contact Wayne County EMA at 601-735-2185 or visit https://www.facebook.com/WayneMSEMA. For storm impacts, refer to www.weather.gov/mob.
