Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Wayne County: Prepare for Winds & Flooding
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Wayne County, including Waynesboro, calling for hazardous winds up to 57 mph and moderate flooding rain; residents should prepare immediately.
Wayne County residents, particularly in Waynesboro, are advised to take immediate action as a Tropical Storm Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service Mobile AL, effective October 9 at 7:27 AM CDT. This watch indicates the potential for hazardous wind and moderate flooding rain.
Prepare for winds of 39 to 57 mph, with peak gusts potentially reaching 45 mph. Remaining efforts to secure property should be completed as soon as possible. Move to safe shelter before the wind becomes hazardous. Potential impacts include damage to porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Many large tree limbs may break, and some trees could snap or uproot. Scattered power and communications outages are possible.
Moderate flooding rain is also expected, with peak rainfall amounts around 1 inch. Emergency plans should include the potential for moderate flooding. Consider protective actions if you are in an area vulnerable to flooding. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life. Moderate rainfall flooding may prompt evacuations and rescues, and rivers and tributaries may quickly become swollen. Driving conditions will become hazardous with potential road and bridge closures.
Tornadoes are not expected at this time. For more local information, contact Wayne County EMA at 601-735-2185 or visit their Facebook page. For storm impacts, refer to NWS Mobile at www.weather.gov/mob. This watch expires October 9 at 3:30 PM UTC.
