Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Wayne County, Immediate Action Urged

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Wayne County, including Waynesboro, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL, effective immediately as of October 9 at 3:55 PM CDT. Residents are advised to move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin.

Forecasters anticipate peak winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Limited damage to carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes is possible, along with downed tree limbs and scattered power outages. All remaining efforts to protect property should be completed as soon as possible.

Additionally, the NWS warns of potential moderate flooding rain, which could lead to significant impacts such as localized flooding, swollen rivers, and hazardous driving conditions. Residents in flood-prone areas should consider protective actions and heed all flood watches and warnings. Failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life.

Tornadoes are not expected at this time. This warning remains in effect until October 10 at 12:00 AM UTC.
