A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Wayne County, effective immediately as of October 8 at 6:56 AM CDT by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL. This means tropical storm-force winds are possible within the next 48 hours. Residents in Waynesboro should begin preparations now.

Forecasters anticipate peak winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Prepare for limited wind damage, including unsecured objects blowing around, broken large tree limbs, and potential power outages. Efforts to protect property should be underway, and all preparations should be completed before hazardous winds begin.

Heavy rainfall is also expected, with 2-4 inches possible and locally higher amounts. This poses a potential for moderate flooding. Residents should include moderate flooding in their emergency plans. Flood waters could enter structures, and some roads may become impassable. Heed any flood watches and warnings. The tornado threat remains low.

For local information, contact Wayne County EMA at 601-735-2185 or visit their Facebook page. For storm impacts, visit www.weather.gov/mob. This watch expires at 3:00 PM UTC today.
