Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Wayne County: Prepare for Winds & Flooding
A Tropical Storm Watch is now in effect for Wayne County, including Waynesboro, with residents urged to prepare for hazardous winds, potential flooding, and power outages.
Wayne County residents, including those in Waynesboro, are advised to immediately begin preparations as a Tropical Storm Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL, effective October 8 at 10:06 AM CDT. This watch indicates the potential for tropical storm conditions within the next 48 hours.
You should plan for hazardous winds of 39 to 57 mph, with peak gusts up to 35 mph. Efforts to protect property should be underway now. Expect limited damage to porches, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes, along with broken tree limbs and scattered power outages. Complete all preparations before winds become hazardous.
In addition, moderate flooding rain is anticipated, with 2-4 inches of rainfall possible, and locally higher amounts. Emergency plans should include the potential for moderate flooding; evacuations and rescues are possible. Heed any flood watches and warnings immediately. Significant impacts are possible, including swollen rivers, overflowing small streams, and hazardous driving conditions due to inundated roadways.
