Residents in Chatom and Millry, Washington County, are under a Tropical Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL, effective immediately as of October 9 at 3:55 PM CDT. This warning indicates severe conditions including hazardous winds and a high potential for major flooding rain.

The NWS advises immediate action. Residents should move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin. Peak wind forecasts are 15-25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph, posing a threat of 39 to 57 mph winds. This could lead to damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes, as well as broken tree limbs and scattered power outages. Remaining efforts to protect property should be completed as soon as possible.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with additional rainfall of approximately 1 inch expected. This indicates a potential for major flooding. Emergency plans should include the possibility of evacuations and rescues. Strongly consider protective actions if you are in a flood-prone area. Failure to take action could result in serious injury or loss of life. Extensive impacts from flooding are possible, including flooded structures, impassable roads, and rapidly overflowing rivers.

Tornadoes are not expected, but gusty winds and thunderstorms may still occur. For local information, contact Washington County EMA at 251-847-2668. Further storm impact information is available at www.weather.gov/mob. This warning is set to expire on October 10 at 12:00 AM UTC.
