WASHINGTON COUNTY, AL — Residents in Chatom and Millry are under an immediate Tropical Storm Warning, issued tonight, October 9, at 9:49 PM CDT by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL. The warning remains in effect until 6:00 AM UTC on October 10.

Authorities urge you to plan for hazardous wind of equivalent tropical storm force. Remaining efforts to protect property should be completed as soon as possible. Prepare for limited wind damage and move to safe shelter before the wind becomes hazardous.

Forecasters anticipate peak winds between 15-25 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph. There is potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Impacts could include damage to porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Unsecured lightweight objects may be blown about. Large tree limbs may break, and some trees could snap or uproot, particularly where they are shallow-rooted. A few roads may become impassable due to debris, and scattered power and communications outages are possible.

No additional significant rainfall is forecast, and there is little to no potential for flooding rain or tornadoes. For local information, contact Washington County EMA at 251-847-2668. For storm impacts, refer to NWS Mobile at www.weather.gov/mob.
