A Special Weather Statement has been issued for parts of Washington and Greene counties due to a strong thunderstorm. Residents in the affected areas are advised to seek shelter indoors.

As of 7:52 PM CDT, Doppler radar is tracking a strong thunderstorm located 4 miles east of Fruitdale, or 9 miles southwest of Chatom. This storm is moving south at 25 mph.

Hazards associated with this storm include wind gusts up to 40 to 50 mph and half-inch hail. The National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL, which issued this statement, indicates that these conditions could lead to gusty winds knocking down tree limbs and blowing around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is also possible.
