Judy L. McTyre Obituary
Mrs. Judy L. McTyre, age 79, of Dallas, Georgia, passed away on April 5, 2026, at Wellstar Tranquility at Kennesaw Mountain in Marietta, Georgia.Mrs. McTyre was born on June 18, 1946, in Villa Rica. She was married to Gordon L. McTyre for just under 60 years, until his passing on November 24, 2023. She was the owner and broker of Northwest Realty Company and a loving wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to many.Meeting Judy for the first time, you’d likely be struck by the picture of a glamorous Southern lady. Over the years, some people made the mistake of thinking that glamour was all there was—never guessing at the sharp wit and powerful intellect behind it. Those who worked with her often learned quickly not to underestimate her.Judy was a trailblazer in everything she set her mind to. She began her career as a secretary at General Motors Acceptance Corporation straight out of Dallas High School and, just ten years later, became the first female GMAC office manager in the country. From that point on, for the rest of her working life, she was not only Gordon’s business partner but his life partner as well. And as successful as he was, he always said, “I married up with that one—she made me what I am.”Judy and Gordon shared a deep love of travel, beginning with their honeymoon in Gatlinburg and leading them to many world destinations including Russia, Ireland, and—most often—their beloved Hawaii, where they felt truly in paradise. No matter how far they wandered, their love for Paulding County always made coming home feel just right. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Leon McTyre; her mother, Ila Mae Hicks Gunnell; her nephew, Jackson Fowler; as well as beloved in-laws.She is survived by her sisters, Carolyn Maynard (Phil), Gail Beard, and Becky King (Jon); her brother, Terry Gunnell (Brian McCutcheon); her sister-in-law, Ann Carroll; her nieces and nephews, Ben Beard (Amanda), Carson Beard, Beth Fowler, Lawson Fowler, Frankie McTyre Jr. (Tina), and Shannon McGraw; and dear friends Danny Adair, Darlene Walker, Toni White, and Lisa Schaffer.Visitation for Mrs. McTyre will be Thursday, April 9, from 4:00–7:00 p.m.Benson Funeral Home is honored to be of service to the family of Judy L.
