Union Church Waban Names Cynthia Sanger Music Director

The Union Church in Waban hired Cynthia Sanger as its Settled Music Director, the church's Music Search Committee announced this week. Sanger, a Newton resident, begins this fall.

Sanger auditioned by directing the church choir. Committee co-chairs James Cooke and Diane Tillotson said she demonstrated musical skill, energy, and passion. Committee members Liz Caronna, Glenn Cunningham, John Weisz, and Pastor Megan participated in the search.

Sanger works as a freelance performer and collaborative pianist throughout New England and the Midwest, where she grew up. She directs choirs and singers regularly. Her repertoire includes composers such as Poulenc, Chopin, and Martinu, along with piano arrangements of orchestral works.

Sanger earned her undergraduate degree from Northwestern University, where she studied music and speech pathology. She holds a master's degree in piano performance from the Longy School of Music.
