Residents in Inland and Coastal Volusia are advised to seek shelter indoors immediately due to a strong thunderstorm moving through the area. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Melbourne, FL, issued a Special Weather Statement today, October 10, 2026, at 4:52 PM EDT, effective until 5:30 PM UTC (1:30 PM EDT).

Doppler radar indicates a strong thunderstorm located over Edgewater, moving northeast at 25 mph. This storm is capable of producing wind gusts up to 50 mph. Affected locations include Port Orange, New Smyrna Beach, Edgewater, South Daytona, and Daytona Beach Shores.

The NWS warns that gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Additionally, conditions are favorable for the development of weak, brief funnel clouds. While rare, these can briefly touch down, producing wind gusts over 50 mph. If a funnel cloud is spotted, move indoors and report the sighting to the National Weather Service.

The alert is based on radar indications and no further speculation on impact is available. This statement expires at 5:30 PM UTC today.
