Coastal Volusia: High Rip Current Risk, Coastal Flood, High Surf Alerts Issued
A Rip Current Statement, Coastal Flood Advisory, and High Surf Advisory have been issued for Coastal Volusia, warning of dangerous rip currents, minor coastal flooding, and large breaking waves, effective until various times through September 27.
Coastal Volusia residents and visitors should exercise extreme caution due to a Rip Current Statement, Coastal Flood Advisory, and High Surf Advisory issued by the National Weather Service in Melbourne, FL. These alerts are in effect as of September 25 at 2:39 AM EDT.
A High Rip Current Risk is in effect through late Saturday night, September 27. Dangerous rip currents are expected. The Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect until 11:00 AM EDT this morning, September 25, with minor coastal flooding possible. The High Surf Advisory, featuring large breaking waves of 4 to 9 feet, is in effect until 4:00 AM EDT Saturday, September 26.
Impacts include potential flooding of low-lying lots, parks, and roadways near the shoreline, with only isolated road closures expected. Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions are anticipated, along with localized beach erosion. Swimmers are strongly discouraged from entering the surf due to large breaking waves and dangerous conditions.
If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Do not swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take necessary actions to protect flood-prone property. Heed the advice of lifeguards, beach patrol flags, and signs.
