Ventura County Beaches Under Hazards Statement: Dangerous Rip Currents

Ventura County beaches are under a Beach Hazards Statement and Coastal Flood Advisory until Tuesday afternoon, with dangerous rip currents, elevated surf, and minor to moderate coastal flooding expected; stay out of the water and protect flood-prone property.

Ventura County residents and visitors are advised to take immediate precautions due to a Beach Hazards Statement and Coastal Flood Advisory issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Los Angeles/Oxnard CA. These advisories are in effect until Tuesday afternoon, October 13th.

You must remain out of the water due to hazardous swimming conditions. If entering the water is unavoidable, stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Do not approach rock jetties, as they can be deadly under current conditions. Those with flood-prone property should take necessary actions to protect their assets. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth.

Dangerous rip currents and elevated surf are expected through Tuesday afternoon. Additionally, minor to moderate coastal flooding is anticipated near times of high tide until 2 PM PDT on Tuesday, October 12th. This flooding is likely in low-lying beach and harbor areas, and enhanced beach erosion is possible. High tides are projected to peak around 7.1 to 7.3 feet on Monday and Tuesday mornings.

The NWS warns of an increased risk of ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea, and waves can wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats nearshore.
