Extreme Heat Warning: Act Now to Stay Safe
An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for parts of Santa Barbara County and Islands until 8:00 PM PDT tonight, with temperatures up to 100 degrees Fahrenheit expected. Stay hydrated, seek air conditioning, and check on neighbors.
An Extreme Heat Warning has been issued for the Cuyama Valley, Santa Barbara County Southwestern Coast, Santa Barbara County Southeastern Coast, Santa Ynez Mountains Western Range, Santa Ynez Mountains Eastern Range, Santa Barbara County Interior Mountains, and Santa Cruz and Anacapa Islands, effective immediately until 8:00 PM PDT this evening, October 8.
The National Weather Service (NWS) Los Angeles/Oxnard CA reports dangerously hot conditions are expected. Temperatures could reach up to 85 degrees Fahrenheit along the coast and 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the mountains and Cuyama Valley.
Residents are advised to take immediate precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses, which can significantly increase during extreme heat events. The NWS advises drinking plenty of fluids, staying in an air-conditioned room, and staying out of the sun. Please check on relatives and neighbors, especially those who may be more vulnerable to heat. This warning is in effect until 8:00 PM PDT tonight.
