Residents across Santa Barbara County, including the Cuyama Valley, coastal regions, and mountain areas, must prepare for dangerously hot conditions. The National Weather Service (NWS) Los Angeles/Oxnard has issued an Extreme Heat Warning, effective immediately, October 3, 2026, at 12:15 PM PDT, and remaining in effect until Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 8:00 PM PDT.

Temperatures are forecast to reach up to 85 degrees Fahrenheit along the coast and climb to 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the mountains and Cuyama Valley. These severe temperatures significantly increase the risk of heat-related illnesses.

The NWS advises all affected individuals to take immediate precautions. Drink plenty of fluids, seek refuge in air-conditioned environments, and stay out of direct sunlight. Community members are also urged to check on relatives and neighbors, especially those who may be vulnerable to the heat. This warning applies to the Cuyama Valley, Santa Barbara County Southwestern Coast, Santa Barbara County Southeastern Coast, Santa Ynez Mountains Western Range, Santa Ynez Mountains Eastern Range, Santa Barbara County Interior Mountains, and Santa Cruz and Anacapa Islands.
