SCF Students Explore Europe: France, Switzerland & Riviera

Thirty State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Venice campus students traveled to France, Switzerland and the Riviera this summer for a study-abroad experience. The June trip allowed students to explore European history and culture firsthand.

Professor Michael Rogers, who teaches American history and political science at SCF Venice, led the students. Rogers has organized SCF's European study-abroad trips since 2016. The group visited the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre Museum and Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral. They also toured the Olympic Museum.

Students gained insights into European art, history and cultural traditions through experiences like Gruyère AOP cheesemaking and perfume manufacturing.

“This trip changed the way I see the world,” said Brianna Mortenson, an SCF study-abroad student. “It left me with a deeper meaning of what history and culture are and a journey that I will cherish forever.”

SCF offers an optional European study-abroad class each summer. Rogers is planning a “Cold War” trip for Summer 2027 to Germany, the Czech Republic and Hungary.
