Valrico, FL – Grace Christian School now offers specialized academic support through its Student Outreach and Resource (SOAR) program, designed for students with documented learning differences. The program aims to help students access the curriculum, demonstrate knowledge, build confidence, and develop independence while meeting grade-level academic expectations.
The SOAR program provides accommodations tailored to individual student needs. These may include extended time for assignments and tests, read-aloud assistance, preferential seating, organizational strategies, study skills development, and small-group or individual academic help. While Grace Christian School does not develop or implement 504 Plans or Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), families must provide these documents, along with a psychoeducational evaluation completed within the last three years, for enrollment consideration.
Families interested in the SOAR program must submit an application, attend an in-person meeting with school staff, and provide a current psychoeducational evaluation. Recent copies of 504 Plans or IEPs are also required if applicable. Samples of previous academic work, such as report cards or assignments, can strengthen an application. During the in-person meeting, students may undergo assessments to determine their current reading and math levels, aiding in the identification of appropriate support strategies.
Placement in the SOAR program is not guaranteed. School staff carefully review each application and conduct meetings with parents and students. These meetings help Grace Christian School determine if its resources and the SOAR program can effectively meet a student's educational needs. Placement decisions consider the student's specific needs, program resources, and the school's capacity for support.
Families seeking assistance in obtaining a psychoeducational evaluation can contact the SOAR Directors for recommended provider information. For inquiries or to begin the enrollment process, parents can reach out to Mrs. Jesenia Navarro, SOAR Director for 6th-12th grade, at [email protected], or Mrs. Treva Johnson, SOAR Director for 1st-5th grade, at [email protected].
