East Tawas City Council Responsibilities and Meetings

The City Council is the legislative body of the City of East Tawas. It is responsible for enacting ordinances, adopting resolutions, and approving the city budget. The council consists of seven members, including the mayor, who are elected at large to four-year terms. Regular meetings of the City Council are held on the first and third Mondays of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers. These meetings are open to the public and provide an opportunity for citizens to voice their opinions and concerns. The City Council also has a number of standing committees that are responsible for specific areas of city government. These committees include the Planning Commission, the Zoning Board of Appeals, and the Parks and Recreation Commission.

East Tawas Brownfield Redevelopment Authority Promotes Environmental Cleanup and Economic Growth

BROWNFIELD REDEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY The Brownfield Redevelopment Authority (BRA) was created to facilitate the redevelopment of environmentally challenged properties within the City. The BRA can assist developers in assessing environmental conditions at a property and securing funding for environmental cleanup activities. Redevelopment of Brownfield properties can increase property values, generate economic opportunities and improve the overall image of the community.
