A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Bullock County, including Union Springs, effective immediately. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, issued the warning today, October 9, at 6:57 PM CDT. This warning is in effect until October 10 at 3:00 AM UTC (10:00 PM CDT).

Residents should move to safe shelter before hazardous winds arrive. Peak winds are forecast at 20-30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph, capable of causing limited damage to porches, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Expect broken tree limbs and some impassable roads due to debris, along with scattered power outages.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. Prepare for moderate flooding from an additional 2-4 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts. Rivers may swell, and low-lying areas could experience rapid inundation. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life.

There is also a potential for a few tornadoes. If your shelter is vulnerable, relocate to a safer spot. If a tornado warning is issued, shelter quickly. For more information and preparedness resources, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
