Tropical Storm Warning for Bullock County: Shelter Immediately
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Bullock County, including Union Springs, until late Saturday morning, with dangerous winds up to 70 mph, potential for moderate flooding, and a risk of tornadoes; residents should shelter immediately.
BULLOCK COUNTY – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Bullock County, including Union Springs, effective immediately as of 9:56 PM CDT on October 9, 2026. This warning is in effect until late Saturday morning.
Residents are advised to shelter now from dangerous winds. Peak wind forecasts are 30-40 mph with gusts up to 70 mph. Last-minute efforts to protect life and property should be complete. The area remains subject to significant wind damage, with potential for winds of 58 to 73 mph.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. An additional 1-3 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, is expected, posing a threat for moderate flooding. Flooding may prompt evacuations and rescues. Heed any flood watches and warnings, as failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life.
The situation is also somewhat favorable for a few tornadoes. Residents should stay within their shelter and remain informed. If a tornado warning is issued, move quickly to the safest place within your shelter. Limited tornado damage is possible, including power and communication disruptions.
