Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Bullock County: Prepare for Winds, Flooding
Bullock County, including Union Springs, is under a Tropical Storm Warning with immediate action required due to potential 50 mph wind gusts, moderate flooding, and possible tornadoes through early October 10.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Bullock County, including Union Springs, effective immediately. The National Weather Service in Birmingham, AL, issued the warning today, October 9, at 4:20 PM CDT. This warning is set to expire at 12:30 AM CDT on October 10.
Residents in Bullock County must complete all efforts to protect property as soon as possible and move to safe shelter before hazardous winds arrive. Peak wind gusts of up to 50 mph are expected, with potential for damage to porches, carports, and unsecured lightweight objects. Scattered power and communication outages are possible, and some roads may become impassable due to debris.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 2-4 inches of rain expected, leading to potential moderate flooding. Emergency plans should include the possibility of evacuations and rescues. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and tributaries may overspill their banks, and floodwaters could enter some structures.
The situation is also somewhat favorable for tornadoes. If your shelter is vulnerable, prepare to relocate. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly. Limited tornado impacts could include damage to roofs, downed trees, and moving vehicles blown off roads.
