Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Macon: Act Now to Prepare
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Macon, including Tuskegee, with immediate action required due to potential severe winds, moderate flooding, and the risk of several tornadoes through early morning October 9.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Macon, effective immediately. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, issued the warning at 7:10 PM CDT on October 8. This warning is set to expire at 3:15 AM CDT on October 9.
Residents in Macon and specifically Tuskegee should act now to complete all preparations. Peak winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph are expected, with a potential for winds reaching 39 to 57 mph. Limited damage to property such as porches, awnings, and sheds is possible, along with downed tree limbs and scattered power outages. Efforts to protect property should be underway.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. One to three inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, are forecast, leading to a potential for moderate flooding. Emergency plans should include the possibility of evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life.
The situation is favorable for several tornadoes, with a few possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings, and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued. Significant tornado impacts are possible, including considerable damage and power loss.
