Tropical Storm Warning for Macon: Prepare Immediately for Wind, Rain
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Macon, specifically Tuskegee, until 1:30 PM CDT today, with immediate preparations advised for potential winds up to 50 mph, moderate flooding, and a few tornadoes.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Macon, effective immediately, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, as of October 9 at 10:17 AM CDT. The warning specifically impacts Tuskegee and is set to expire on October 9 at 6:30 PM UTC (1:30 PM CDT).
Residents in Tuskegee should act now to complete all preparations before hazardous winds begin. The NWS forecasts peak winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 50 mph, with the potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Limited damage is possible, including to porches, awnings, and unanchored mobile homes. Expect broken tree limbs, potential uprooted trees, and scattered power and communications outages. Hazardous driving conditions are possible on bridges and elevated roadways.
A Flood Watch is also in effect for Macon. An additional 1-3 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, are expected, creating a potential for moderate flooding. Emergency plans should include the possibility of evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may swell, and flood waters could enter structures. Heed any flood watches and warnings. Failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life.
The NWS also indicates a potential for a few tornadoes. Residents with vulnerable shelters should prepare to relocate to a safer location before hazardous weather arrives. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly.
