Pima residents are urged to seek immediate shelter as a Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for the area until 8:00 PM MST tonight, October 10. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Tucson, AZ, reported a severe thunderstorm near Pisinemo, moving north at 45 mph, with radar indicating hazardous 60 mph wind gusts.
The NWS warns that this storm is capable of producing damaging winds. Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Continuous cloud-to-ground lightning is also occurring. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.
Wind damage with this storm will occur before any rain or lightning. Do not wait for the sound of thunder before taking cover. Seek shelter immediately inside a sturdy structure and stay away from windows.
Locations impacted include Pisinemo, GuVo, Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, Covered Wells, San Simon, Why, Gunsight, Charco 27, Pia Oik, Santa Cruz, Mountain Village, San Simon West, KuKatch, and Lukeville.
This warning also impacts travelers on Route 85 between mile markers 52 and 69, and between mile markers 74 and 80. Additionally, Route 86 between mile markers 53 and 94 is affected.
