Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Pike County, Including Troy: Act Now
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Pike County, including Troy, with tropical storm-force winds, moderate flooding, and several tornadoes possible; residents must act immediately to secure property and seek shelter.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Pike County, including Troy, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, effective immediately as of October 8 at 4:07 PM CDT. Tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours, expiring October 9 at 12:15 AM UTC.
Residents should take immediate action to protect property and secure loose items. Peak wind gusts of up to 50 mph are possible. Move to safe shelter before hazardous winds arrive. Expect potential limited damage to porches, carports, and unsecured objects, along with scattered power outages and impassable roads due to debris.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. Moderate flooding is possible with 1-3 inches of rain, and locally higher amounts. Heed all flood watches and warnings; evacuations and rescues are possible. Rivers and small streams may overflow, and roads may become hazardous due to moving water. Do not drive through flooded areas.
The NWS also indicates a favorable situation for several tornadoes, with a few possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats are urged to relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly. Significant tornado impacts could include extensive damage, power loss, and communications failures.
