A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Pike County until 9:00 PM CDT today, with forecasts for hazardous wind, moderate flooding, and potential tornadoes; residents should prepare immediately.

TROY, AL – October 8, 2026 – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for Pike County, effective immediately and expiring at 9:00 PM CDT today. Residents in Troy and surrounding areas are urged to finalize preparations for hazardous wind, moderate flooding rain, and the potential for several tornadoes.

A Flood Watch is currently in effect, with 2-4 inches of rain expected, and localized higher amounts possible. This could lead to moderate flooding, prompting evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may overflow banks, and floodwaters could enter structures. Drivers should anticipate hazardous conditions and potential road closures due to flooding.

Wind gusts up to 40 mph are forecast, with potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes is possible, along with downed tree limbs and power outages. Move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin.

The situation is favorable for tornadoes, with the potential for several, some of which could be intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings, and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
