Schoharie (Schoharie County): Virginia M. “Ginny” Bevins 90, of Main Street Schoharie, NY passed away Monday, April 27th at the Ellis Hospital after a long and giving life.Ginny was born June 7, 1935

Schoharie (Schoharie County): Virginia M. “Ginny” Bevins 90, of Main Street Schoharie, NY passed away Monday, April 27th at the Ellis Hospital after a long and giving life.Ginny was born June 7, 1935 in Brooklyn, NY, a daughter of Francis and Regina (Healy) Coschina. She began her education at Catholic School in Brooklyn and later graduated from Schoharie High School. She devoted her life to her family and community and also worked at Schoharie BOCES. She was a charter member of Scho-Wright Ambulance Service as an EMT and in various positions where she tirelessly served for over 50 years and was recognized by NYS recently. Ginny was a devout Catholic and was a communicant and religious education teacher at the former St. Joseph’s R.C. Church in Schoharie until its closing and then at Our Lady of Fatima in Delanson. She also loved her animals and raising basset hounds.Survivors include: her husband, Joseph Bevins whom she married April 7, 1956, her children; Kimberly (Mark) Compton of Manchester, Missouri, Shawn (Ann) Bevins of Esperance, Marcy (Dale) Molzan of Waterford, Connecticut, and Gregory (late Rose) Bevins of Punta Gorda, Florida, 8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren (and another soon to come) and her sister Jean Riedell. Ginny was predeceased by her siblings; her twin Nancy Schmidt, Therese Wright, Elsie Gruenberg and Marie Prince.A period of visitation will be held from 1-3PM on Tuesday, May 5th at the Langan Funeral Home followed by a prayer service. Burial will be private. A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Ginny to: Marathon For A Better Life, PO Box 268, Warnerville, NY 12187 OR Scho-Wright Ambulance Service, PO Box 325, Schoharie, NY 12157.

Obetz Planning & Zoning Commission Meeting Scheduled for May 13

"The Obetz Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing on May 13, 2026 at 6:00 PM at the Obetz Government Center located at 4175 Alum Creek Drive to review a request for a Conditional Use Permit at 4685 Groveport Road for a wall.   The Applicant, Shasta Beverages, is adding a CO2 tank necessitating the need for a new 60’ section of wall to screen the tank.  The existing wall will be removed.  A copy of the above request can be reviewed at the Obetz Government Center during normal business hours. "Obetz City Council will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at 6:00 PM at the Obetz Government Center located at 4175 Alum Creek Drive to consider the following rezoning request submitted by Grand Communities, LLC (Fischer Homes):  (1) the rezoning of all of or a portion of tax parcels 152-002313, 152-002314, 152-001744, 152-001841, 152-001847, 152-001848, 152-002315, 152-002316 from Planned Unit Development to Planned Residential District; and, (2) the rezoning of all of or a portion of tax parcels 152-001749 and 152-001753 from Exceptional Use to Planned Residential District.  The portion(s) of the parcel(s) not included in the proposed Preliminary Development Plan will not be rezoned; rather, the underlying zoning will remain.  The Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval of the rezoning request at its April 8th meeting.  A copy of the above request can be reviewed at the Obetz Government Center during normal business hours.
