Two Dead in Thonotosassa Plane Crash, Sheriff Investigating

Two people died in a plane crash near Thonotosassa on the morning of September 3, 2026. Authorities have identified the victims and are investigating the cause.

Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office deputies are investigating a fatal plane crash that occurred the morning of September 3, 2026, near U.S. Highway 301 and Maislin Drive in Thonotosassa.

Deputies responded to a 911 call at 8:17 a.m. and found a small aircraft engulfed in flames in a wooded area. Hillsborough County Fire Rescue extinguished the fire. Authorities discovered two deceased individuals inside the wreckage.

The pilot was 59-year-old David Siambanes, and the passenger was 53-year-old Dawn Stone. Next of kin for both victims have been notified.

Sheriff Chad Chronister said, "This is a tragic loss, and our hearts go out to the loved ones of both victims. We appreciate the work of the first responders who arrived on scene quickly. We will continue working closely with our federal partners as this investigation moves forward."

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are leading the investigation into the cause of the crash. The Sheriff's Office is handling the death investigation.
