HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Gibsonton man with prior robbery convictions was arrested Wednesday afternoon following a bank robbery in Brandon, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Deputies responded to a Wells Fargo Bank at 204 South Kings Avenue at approximately 12:03 p.m. Sept. 30, 2026, after a report of a robbery in progress. A man entered the bank, presented a teller with a note demanding money, and fled on foot.
During an area search, detectives observed a man matching the suspect’s description near the intersection of Woodberry Road and Berry Lake Drive. The man, identified as Everett Jones, 59, of Gibsonton, was taken into custody on an existing felony warrant for Failure of a Career Offender to Register or Provide Information.
Jones confessed to the bank robbery during an interview with detectives and faces an additional charge of robbery. Sheriff Chad Chronister stated, “For four decades, this man has made a career out of robbery, and he tried it again. Our detectives tracked him down, and this man’s reign of robbery is now over.”
Jones has prior robbery convictions in 1984, 2005, and 2015. The investigation is ongoing.
