Alert: Miami-Dade County Water and Sewer Department Precautionary Boil Water Order for all of Miami-Dade County Miami-Dade County Water and Sewer Department (WASD) has issued a precautionary boil water order for all of Miami-Dade County. The order was issued following a drop in pressure in the water distribution system due to an electrical failure at the John E. Preston Water Treatment Plant. Precautionary boil water orders are issued when there is a potential for harmful bacteria and other microbes to enter the drinking water system due to a loss of pressure. Loss of pressure can be a result of a main break, a hurricane, or a power outage. All water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes should be boiled. A rolling boil for one minute is sufficient. As an alternative, bottled water may be used. Water used for showering and bathing does not need to be boiled. It is safe to wash clothes and linens with water from the tap. The precautionary boil water order will remain in effect until two consecutive days of clear samples are returned, indicating the water is safe for consumption.
