Residents from The Dalles, Hood River, Mosier, Lyle, Klickitat, and Wahkiacus have demonstrated significant generosity in supporting wildfire survivors. The initial phase of the Rowena-Burdoin wildfire recovery donation effort has concluded, with items now prepared for distribution to those impacted by the fires.
Impacted residents in need of clothing and personal items are encouraged to contact Bountiful Blessings at 308 Washington Street or by calling 541-705-5783 for more information regarding assistance. The distribution of donated items is slated for next spring, as survivors will require these resources to rebuild the contents of their homes.
On August 18th and 19th, volunteers gathered at the Wahtonka Cafeteria and the Elks Lodge to pack all the donated items. The entire inventory was then moved to a secure, long-term storage location. This marks the completion of the first step in the recovery process.
Numerous community partners were instrumental in the success of this donation drive. Kudos are extended to Bountiful Blessings, the City of The Dalles Council, the City of The Dalles Police, Downey Furniture, The Dalles Elks Lodge #303, Hanlon Development, Hattenhauer Distributing, The Dalles Lions Club, Mid-Columbia Action Community Council, Mid-Columbia Economic Development District, Nichols Glass Art, North Wasco County School District 21, Oregon Emergency Management, and Sawyer's Ace Hardware, as well as Wasco County and many other volunteers.
