Councils and Committees
Oregon Emergency Management participates in and facilitates several councils and committees that assist with preparedness, response and mitigation of hazards in our state. These include: Agencies participating in the Oregon Emergency Response System Council provide cooperative assistance within their resources and authority in responding to mitigating hazards that threaten the State of Oregon. The Oregon Seismic Safety Policy Advisory Commission (OSSPAC) was established after the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake in California. It is tasked with promoting earthquake awareness and preparedness in Oregon through education, research and legislation. OSSPAC meets bi-monthly. State Interagency Hazard Mitigation Team (IHMT) coordinates recommended strategies to lessen loss of life, property, economic and natural resources when natural hazard events affect technological systems and critical infrastructure. The team meets on a quarterly basis. Section 151 of House Bill 2927, ordered by the Senate on June 25, 2021, established the Emergency Preparedness Advisory Council within the Office of the Governor. The mission of the council is to facilitate policy recommendations for catastrophic disaster preparedness, mitigation and response, recovery planning, procedures, and protocols with special emphasis on outreach to representatives of designated state and federal emergency support functions. Section 152 of House Bill 2927, ordered by the Senate on June 25, 2021, established the Local Government Emergency Management Advisory Council (LGEMAC). The council provides advice and recommendations to Oregon Department of Emergency Management regarding emergency preparedness and response functions. The Oregon Homeland Security Council (OHSC) was created by House Bill 2101 in the 2005 legislation session. Placed within the Oregon Department of Emergency Management, this council receives briefings on security matters for which the department is responsible at least annually from state agencies and organizations as determined by the council. The Safe Media Access to Disaster Sites Committee (HB4087) was established in 2022 to ensure safe and equitable news media access to wildfire and other disaster scenes on Oregon public lands. House Bill 4087 directs Oregon Emergency Management to convene a collaborative committee of news media and public safety agency stakeholders to develop and implement a safety training and media access credentialing plan. The plan is scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2023. The Japanese Tsunami Marine Debris (JTMD) task force was created in the aftermath of the Tohoku earthquake in 2011 to manage the marine debris washing up on Oregon shores. Voters' Pamphlet Page Layout Error
Washington County Voters, as you begin to look through your voters’ pamphlets, you may notice that the candidate statements for the three U.S. Senate candidates are not all grouped together. This is due to a page layout error at the printing vendor that resulted in the county insert being placed in the wrong location in the state voters’ pamphlet. The error did not impact any content within the voters’ pamphlet. You can find one of the candidates on pg. 30 before the insert and the other two on pg. 31 after the insert. The insert itself is approximately 68 pages long. An online version of the state voters’ pamphlet without the county insert is available at https://sos.oregon.gov/elections/Voters-Pamphlet. If you have any questions, contact either the Secretary of State’s Office or the Washington County Elections Division.
Disc Golf Course Volunteer Work Event
Come and join us for our recurring monthly Volunteer Work Event for cleaning up the Disc Golf Courses in preparation for the 2027 World’s Tournament! There’s blackberry to hedge, tee pads to pour, and gravel to tamp! Any help you can lend will benefit the course and make it an unforgettable Event! Refreshments and personal protective equipment will be provided, but please bring your own water, hard-to-ed shoes, and lunch if needed. Every 3rd Saturday of the month through the Fall and Winter we will be meeting at Parking Lot A at 9am, rain or shine! Thank you for the consideration, and we hope to see you out with us sometime soon!

The Land Use Planning department holds regular public hearings and meetings to discuss proposed changes to zoning ordinances, comprehensive plan amendments, and major development applications. These meetings provide an open forum for public comment and ensure transparency in the decision-making process. Press Release: Historian Steve Lent to Present Lecture on the History of the Meek Wagon Trail • Crook County, OR PRINEVILLE, Ore. — The Bowman Museum will host historian Steve Lent for a special lecture exploring the history and significance of the Lost Meek Wagon Trail on Wednesday, October 14, at 6 p.m. The Meek Wagon Trail played an important role in the history of Oregon and the settlement of the region. During his presentation, Lent will examine the trail’s history, its significance to Oregon’s development, and the people and events connected to its journey through the landscape. Lent will also share newly discovered information about the Meek Wagon Trail, offering attendees an opportunity to hear fresh perspectives and learn more about a historic route that continues to capture the interest of historians and local communities. Volunteer with Unknown County Sheriff's Office as a Reserve Deputy
The Unknown County Sheriff's Office Reserve Program offers a unique opportunity for community members to volunteer their time and skills in supporting law enforcement efforts. Reserve Deputies undergo training and are called upon to assist with patrols, community events, and other assignments. This is a great way to give back to Unknown County and make a difference.
