Passports | North Miami, FL Applicants with urgent travel in less than five weeks or applicants at the five-week cutoff timeframe, must make an appointment at the Miami Passport Agency by calling the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778. Hurricane Debris
Do not mix yard waste (vegetation) with garbage or any other debris. See more details on next page. Trash and vegetative debris must be properly separated to guarantee removal. Use clear plastic bags for hurricane vegetative debris. Separate debris by category: household garbage, construction debris, vegetative debris, household hazardous waste, white goods (large electrical household appliances), electronics. Debris Removal occur in 3 phrases.Phase 1: Removal of vegetation (large trees, branches, leaves, logs and limbs). Phase 2: Removal of any construction and household debris. Phase 3: Removal of any remaining leaves and loose vegetation.
Electrical and Gas Safety
Electrical and Gas Safety Stay away from power lines and electrical wires. Please advise Florida Power and Light if there are any downed power lines in your area by calling at 1-800-4OUTAGE (1-800-468-8243) or 305-442-8770. If you suspect a gas leak, turn off the main gas valve, open all windows and leave the house immediately. Then call your gas company. Do not return to the house until you are told it is safe to do so.
Hurricane and Weather Information
Hurricane season is June 1st through November 30th. It is never too early to begin planning your family and your home for the storm season. We urge you to plan now and be prepared. The 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season, which runs from June 1 through November 30, is forecasted to be more active than usual. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) expects 13 to 19 named storms, with 6 to 10 becoming hurricanes and 3 to 5 of those possibly reaching major hurricane strength (Category 3 or higher). This increased activity is due in part to warmer Atlantic Ocean temperatures, continued ENSO neutral conditions and forecasts for weak wind shear and the potential for higher activity point for the Atlantic hurricanes. Hurricane Preparedness Tips For North Miami residents, this forecast means it's especially important to stay alert and prepared. While we can’t predict exactly where storms will go, our location in South Florida makes us highly vulnerable. Members of the public are encouraged to utilize resources like the National Hurricane Center for crucial updates designed to help communities like ours make well-informed decisions before, during and after storms. The City of North Miami urges all community members to begin preparing now. Review your family emergency plans, check your hurricane kits, and make sure you’re signed up for emergency alerts from the City. We are committed to keeping you informed and safe throughout the season. Working together, we can reduce risks and protect our community. Commonly Used Hurricane Terms Tropical Storm: Substantial winds of up to 73 mph and heavy rains, resulting in downed trees and power lines, heavy flooding and possible tornadoes. Hurricane Watch: Advance statement issued by the National Hurricane Center, which implies the possibility of dangerous conditions within 24 to 48 hours. Hurricane Warning: Advance statement issued by the National Hurricane Center that confirms hurricane conditions are considered imminent and may begin immediately or at least within the next 12 to 24 hours. Hurricane: A violent storm organizing over tropical waters, with winds near its center reaching 74 mph and higher. A storm may range from 50 to 1,000 miles in diameter. For hurricane categories a associated sustained wind speeds, visit the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale website. Storm Surge: A dome of seawater, often 50 miles wide that can sweep across the coastline inundating the land with water above normal high tide. Stay tuned to local media for advisories on the latest forecast. Local media includes television news media and news talk radio. Garbage Service
Garbage Service Contract garbage service is required by City of Mary Esther Ordinance, and is provided by Waste Management. ***Effective April 1, 2019, the City will no longer be billing for garbage pickup. Waste Management will be sending out quarterly invoices near the end of March for April, May, and June services. If you have any questions regarding your waste services or billing, please contact Waste Management at 1-800-284-2451.*** Household Waste Mondays: Place rolling cart with hinges towards your house. Recycling Recycling is picked up on Thursdays only. Yard Waste Tuesday: Bagged or Bundled in 4 feet lengths. Trunks no more than 25 pounds and no more than 4 inches in diameter. Bulk Items Friday: Appliances, Furniture, etc. Call for items with FREON (A/C and Refrigerator).

New Storm Surge Zones
New Storm Surge Zones | North Miami, FL New Storm Surge Zones Miami-Dade County has redefined areas that should plan for evacuation. A storm surge planning zones is an area that could potentially be affected by a storm surge of 1.5 feet or higher. Residents may have to evacuate or "shelter-in-place" depending upon the projected track and storm surge. To find out if you live in a storm surge planning zone, enter you address at the GIS website. American Red Cross Evacuation Centers: Miami-Dade County and the American Red Cross will designate public evacuation centers to open based on the storm’s strength and projected impact area. If you fell that your home is not safe or if you live in an evacuation zone, plan to evacuate. A public shelter is a last resort. Emergency and Evacuation Assistance Program (E&EAP): Miami-Dade County offers the Emergency Evacuation Program to all residents of the County that have special needs. In order to receive assistance during an emergency, residents must register with the county prior to hurricane season. Additional information can be found at the Emergency & Evacuation Assistance Program (EEAP). Please register online. Emergency Evacuation Bus Pick-Up Sites: Miami-Dade Transit will activate specific bus pick up sites during an emergency evacuation. The pick-up site and buses will have signs that read "Emergency Evacuation". Emergency Evacuation Pick-up Sites (PDF) Evacuation Zones: Any and all property located east of Biscayne Boulevard (US1) in North Miami falls within a designated evacuation zone, as determined by Miami-Dade County. It is recommended that residents of this area evacuate should a storm threaten our area. Depending upon the strength of the storm such an evacuation may be mandatory.

Online Extracurriculars for K-12 Students There is so much to see and do all over Florida. Our voluntary field trips give your child a chance to experience these amazing places firsthand. From historical sites to zoos, museums, the great outdoors and so much more, your child can go on adventures alongside their fellow students, exploring, learning and having fun together on school trips throughout Florida. Student Clubs A sample of online school clubs and activities offered to students Art Club (Grades 6-12) Designed to spark student creativity by exploring two-dimensional and three-dimensional art, photography, and graphic design through techniques and styles associated with each medium. Students have the opportunity to create original designs and artwork, share their artwork with peers, learn about appropriate critique guidelines, and provide feedback to other club members.. Arts and Crafts Club (Grades 2-5) Encourages students to create crafts using materials found at home and in nature. Integrated with subjects such as social studies, science, and math, students work on a variety of creative projects. Chess Club (Grades K-12) Offers a unique opportunity to learn from chess experts and enjoy playing chess with other students in biweekly LiveLesson sessions. Club members are encouraged to enjoy friendly competition through the use of an online chess gaming system. All club members are invited to participate in chess tournaments throughout the year. Drama Club (Grades 6–12) This lively club provides students with the opportunity to explore the world of theater, including performance, stage management, and major genres. Includes collaborative creative projects with other students and constructive feedback. LiveLesson® sessions and an engaging Message Board are designed to inspire, challenge, and motivate every student’s creativity. Gaming and Technology Club (Grades 2–12) Allows students who have an affinity for technology and gaming to explore and discuss gaming styles and genres, learn about careers in the gaming and technology industry, and share their original work in LiveLesson sessions. Individual and collaborative projects may include creating elements of video games and investigating internet safety and cyberthreats. Gross Science Club (Grades K-5) Kids get to learn about yucky, gooey, stinky things in science. They get to do fun experiments like making fake poop and boogers. Explore the weird world of gross science with cool activities. Kindness Club (K-5) Members inspire each other to build up virtual students from around the country and world, and complete regular challenges to scatter kindness throughout their communities. Mini Monthly Marvels (Grades K-1) Members are encouraged to join monthly meetings to participate in fun activities such as arts and crafts and games that are focused around monthly themes. Students share their experiences, creations, and observations. These special events occur during specified time periods and do not require club enrollment. Some examples of special events include the Photography and Music Showcases, and Hour of Code (to celebrate Computer Science Week). Because learning at Connections Academy takes place virtually, our flexible schedule gives students the opportunity to play recreational or club sports in their local communities. In addition, our schools participate in Connections Esports, which brings together several Connections Academy Esports Clubs. Depending on grade level, your middle or high school student can participate in competitions by playing Rocket League or Valorant. In 2022, we were ranked #1 nationally in Rocket League!
Montessori Academy of Tampa Bay
Established in 1993, provides a hands-on Montessori education for children ages 14 months through 3rd grade. Our classrooms are designed with mixed-age groups that encourage collaboration, independence, and leadership among students of all levels. From the earliest learners to our elementary students, children explore Practical Life, Sensorial, Math, Language, Geography, and more through engaging, hands-on experiences.
