Coastal Taylor County residents, including Keaton Beach and Steinhatchee, are under a Storm Surge Watch issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee. This alert, effective October 7 at 2:09 PM EDT, warns of a potential for life-threatening storm surge of 2-4 feet above ground from Friday morning until Saturday morning.
Significant impacts are possible, including damage to coastal buildings, weakened escape routes, major beach erosion, and strong rip currents. If evacuation orders are given for your area, leave immediately. Failure to heed evacuation orders may result in loss of life.
The NWS also forecasts potential for tropical storm force winds (39-57 mph), with current predictions of 10-15 mph and gusts to 30 mph. Efforts to protect property should be underway, and preparations completed before winds become hazardous. Additionally, 2-4 inches of rain are expected, with localized higher amounts, bringing a moderate flood threat. Heed any flood watches and warnings.
