Taylor County is under a Tropical Storm Watch issued by NWS Peachtree City, warning of possible tropical storm-force winds, moderate flooding, and several tornadoes over the next 48 hours; residents should prepare immediately.
TAYLOR COUNTY, GA – The National Weather Service (NWS) Peachtree City has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for Taylor County, including Butler, effective immediately as of October 8 at 11:17 AM EDT. This watch indicates that tropical storm-force winds are possible within the area over the next 48 hours. The watch is set to expire on October 8 at 7:30 PM UTC.
Residents should prepare for potential wind gusts up to 40 mph, with the possibility of scattered power outages and damage to property like porches, awnings, and unanchored mobile homes. Efforts to protect property should be underway now.
Moderate flooding from 1-3 inches of rain is also forecast, with locally higher amounts. This could lead to swollen rivers, overflowing small streams, and hazardous driving conditions. Evacuations and rescues are possible in vulnerable areas. Heed any flood watches and warnings.
Additionally, the NWS states that conditions are favorable for several tornadoes, some potentially intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter before hazardous weather arrives. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued.
