A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Butler in Taylor County by the National Weather Service Peachtree City GA, effective October 8 at 11:16 PM EDT. This watch indicates that tropical storm conditions are possible within the specified area.

Residents in Butler should immediately begin preparations. Winds are forecast to reach 10-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes is possible, along with downed tree limbs and scattered power outages. Efforts to protect property should now be underway, and all preparations should be completed before hazardous winds arrive.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. Peak rainfall amounts of 2-4 inches, with locally higher amounts, are expected, leading to a potential for moderate flooding. Emergency plans should include the possibility of moderate flooding, which could prompt evacuations and rescues. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life.

The situation is favorable for tornadoes, with a potential for several, some possibly intense. Those living in manufactured homes or on boats should prepare to relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued. This alert is effective until October 9, 2026, at 3:30 AM EDT.
