TALLADEGA, AL – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Talladega and Sylacauga, effective immediately as of October 9 at 9:56 PM CDT. Residents in these areas should shelter from hazardous winds, which are expected to last until Saturday afternoon.

Peak wind gusts are forecast between 35-45 mph, with gusts up to 70 mph. The NWS advises that last-minute efforts to protect property should now be complete. The area remains subject to limited wind damage.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 1-3 inches of rainfall, and locally higher amounts, expected. Moderate flooding is possible, which may prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may overflow, and small streams, creeks, and ditches could flood. Floodwaters may enter some structures and make driving conditions hazardous. Heed all flood watches and warnings.

Tornadoes are not expected at this time; however, showers and thunderstorms with gusty winds may still occur. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
