Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Talladega, Sylacauga: Prepare Now
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Talladega and Sylacauga, with residents urged to prepare for potential tropical storm-force winds, significant flooding rain, and a few tornadoes within the next 48 hours.
TALLADEGA, AL — The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for Talladega and Sylacauga, effective October 8 at 10:05 AM CDT. Tropical storm-force winds are possible within the next 48 hours. Residents should act now to complete preparations.
Peak wind gusts of 10-20 mph, with potential gusts up to 40 mph, are forecast. This could result in limited damage to unsecured outdoor items, broken tree limbs, and scattered power outages. Efforts to protect property should be underway immediately.
Significant flooding rain is also anticipated, with 2-4 inches of rainfall expected, and locally higher amounts possible. This could lead to moderate flooding, potentially prompting evacuations and rescues. Residents in flood-vulnerable areas should consider protective actions. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life.
A few tornadoes are also possible. Emergency plans should include the potential for tornadoes. If your shelter is vulnerable, prepare to relocate to a safe shelter before hazardous weather arrives. Be ready to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued.
