A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Talladega and Sylacauga by the National Weather Service (NWS) Birmingham, AL, effective tonight, October 8, at 10:27 PM CDT, and expiring tomorrow, October 9, at 6:30 AM CDT. Residents in these areas should complete preparations now as hazardous conditions are expected.
The NWS forecasts wind speeds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, with potential for winds of 39 to 57 mph. Prepare for limited wind damage, including unsecured objects being blown about and some tree limbs breaking. Scattered power and communications outages are possible.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 1-3 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts. Moderate rainfall flooding is possible, potentially leading to evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings. Rivers and small streams may overflow, and some roads may become impassable.
Additionally, there is a potential for a few tornadoes. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly. Damage could include roofs peeled off, chimneys toppled, and mobile homes overturned.
