Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Worth County: Prepare for Severe Weather
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Worth County, including Sylvester and Warwick, with potential for tropical storm-force winds, moderate flooding, and tornadoes within the next 48 hours; residents should prepare immediately.
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Worth County, including Sylvester and Warwick, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee, FL, effective today, October 8, 2026, at 11:06 AM EDT. This watch indicates that tropical storm-force winds are possible within the next 48 hours.
Residents should act now to complete preparations before hazardous winds arrive. Peak winds are forecast to be 10-20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, but the potential for winds of 39 to 57 mph exists. Expect limited damage to lightweight structures, tree limbs, and potential scattered power outages. Hazardous driving conditions are possible, especially on elevated roadways.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. Emergency plans should include potential moderate flooding from 1-3 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts. This could lead to swollen rivers, overflowing creeks, and hazardous driving conditions on flooded roads. Evacuations and rescues are possible in vulnerable areas.
The NWS also indicates a favorable situation for tornadoes. Prepare for the potential of several tornadoes, with some possibly intense. If you live in a manufactured home or on a boat, relocate to safe shelter before hazardous weather arrives. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued.
The Tropical Storm Watch is set to expire on October 8, 2026, at 7:15 PM UTC. For more information, visit NWS Tallahassee or Georgia Emergency Management Agency.
