Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Worth County: Prepare for Severe Weather
A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Worth County, including Sylvester and Warwick, from October 8 at 5:22 PM EDT until October 9 at 1:30 AM EDT; prepare for hazardous winds, significant flooding, and a potential for tornadoes.
WORTH COUNTY RESIDENTS: A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Worth County, including Sylvester and Warwick, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL. This watch is effective immediately as of October 8 at 5:22 PM EDT and will remain in effect until October 9 at 1:30 AM EDT.
You should now be taking action to complete preparations before hazardous wind conditions arrive. Forecasts indicate potential for sustained winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, with a threat of 39-57 mph winds. Prepare for limited wind damage, including potential harm to porches, carports, and unanchored mobile homes, as well as possible power outages and downed tree limbs.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 3-6 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. This carries a significant potential for moderate flooding, which may require evacuations and rescues. Heed any flood watches and warnings immediately. If you are in an area vulnerable to flooding, consider protective actions. Rivers and small streams could overflow, and roads may become impassable.
Furthermore, the situation is favorable for several tornadoes, with some potentially intense. Residents in manufactured homes or on boats should prepare to relocate to safer shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if one is issued. Tornadoes can cause significant damage, power loss, and create dangerous flying debris.
