Wind Advisory Issued: Gusts Up To 60 MPH Expected, Power Outages Likely

A Wind Advisory has been issued for Madison, Yancey, Mitchell, Swain, Haywood, Buncombe, Graham, Northern Jackson, Macon, Southern Jackson, and Transylvania counties, effective immediately until Sunday, October 11, at 8:00 AM EDT. The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg SC advises residents to prepare for strong winds and potential impacts.

For elevations above 3500 feet, a High Wind Warning is in effect, with southeast winds expected between 10 to 25 mph and gusts up to 60 mph. Below 3500 feet, a Wind Advisory predicts southeast winds of 5 to 20 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. Damaging winds are anticipated to bring down trees and power lines, particularly in higher elevations, leading to widespread power outages.

Residents are advised to remain in the lower levels of their homes during the windstorm and avoid windows. Watch for falling debris and tree limbs. If driving is necessary, exercise extreme caution, especially for high-profile vehicles. Gusty winds may also displace unsecured outdoor objects and cause isolated power outages in lower elevations due to falling tree limbs.

Stay informed by listening to local radio, television, or NOAA Weather Radio for further updates and information from the National Weather Service.
