A Wind Advisory and High Wind Warning have been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Greenville-Spartanburg SC, effective immediately until 8 AM EDT Sunday, October 11, 2026. Residents in Madison, Yancey, Mitchell, Swain, Haywood, Buncombe, Graham, Northern Jackson, Macon, Southern Jackson, and Transylvania counties should prepare for strong winds and potential impacts.

For elevations above 3500 feet, a High Wind Warning is in effect, with southeast winds of 15 to 25 mph and gusts up to 60 mph expected. Damaging winds are forecast to bring down trees and power lines, leading to widespread power outages. Travel will be difficult, particularly for high-profile vehicles.

In lower elevations below 3500 feet, a Wind Advisory is in effect, with southeast winds of 10 to 20 mph and gusts of 45 to 50 mph expected. Gusty winds may blow around unsecured objects and could cause isolated power outages from falling tree limbs.

The NWS advises residents to remain in the lower levels of their homes during the windstorm and avoid windows. Watch for falling debris and tree limbs. If driving is necessary, use extreme caution, especially in high-profile vehicles. Stay informed by listening to local radio, television, or NOAA Weather Radio for further information.
