Winter Storm Watch Issued for Absaroka/Beartooth and Crazy Mountains

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued by NWS Billings MT for the Absaroka/Beartooth and Crazy Mountains, warning of heavy snow, blowing snow, and difficult travel conditions from Saturday evening through Monday morning.

Residents and travelers in the Absaroka/Beartooth Mountains and Crazy Mountains should prepare for a Winter Storm Watch effective from Saturday evening through Monday morning. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Billings, MT, issued this alert today, October 9, at 1:29 PM MDT.

Heavy snow and blowing snow are possible during this period, with total snow accumulations potentially reaching or exceeding 12 inches. Wind gusts could be as high as 35 mph.

The NWS warns that travel could become very difficult to impossible, particularly over the Beartooth Pass and in and around Cooke City. Backcountry recreation will also be impacted.

This Winter Storm Watch is in effect until Monday, October 12, at 12:00 PM MDT. The NWS advises the public to monitor the latest forecasts for updates on this developing situation.
