Letters to the Commission Archived Letters to the Commission Town Manager Reports The Executive Department provides for the centralized management of all Town functions. The Town Manager is the chief executive officer and the head of the administrative branch of the Town government and is responsible for ensuring that all operations effectively address the policy direction provided by the Town Commission in the most efficient and responsible manner. The Town Commission appoints the Town Manager and provides for general oversight. Article III of the Town of Surfside Charter provides a detailed explanation of the associated rights, responsibilities, and prohibitions governing the Town Manager. Zac Brown Band Surprises Entire Audience in Boston with Margaritaville at Sea Vacations
BOSTON, August 3, 2026 – GRAMMY® Award-winning, multi-PLATINUM group Zac Brown Band celebrated another remarkable milestone Sunday night, achieving a record-breaking 15th consecutive sold-out performance at Boston’s iconic Fenway Park. Already holding the venue’s records for the most consecutive sold-out shows and the most tickets sold in its history, the band marked the occasion in unforgettable fashion when Zac Brown surprised every fan in attendance with a cruise vacation aboard Margaritaville at Sea. Valued at more than $40 million, the surprise gift for more than 37,000 fans is the largest audience gifting in live entertainment history. Personally provided by Brown as a thank-you to his fans, the cruises may be redeemed on select Margaritaville at Sea sailings over the next year. Annual Budgets
The City of Callaway fiscal year begins on October 1st and ends on September 30th. Budget adoption follows a thorough review of the preliminary budget. After review by staff, the City Manager and the City's Finance Director, the City's Commission reviews the proposed budget during one or more workshop meetings. The preliminary budget is also available in the archives and the agenda Center on the City's website for review by the general public during September prior to its adoption. Commission adopts the budget in September after two public hearings, held pursuant to Florida Statute, which provide an opportunity for public comment. After adoption, portions of the budget may be amended during the fiscal year by Commission through formal Resolutions during Commission meetings. Façade Improvement Program
The Callaway Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) developed the Façade Improvement Program to provide funding for qualified commercial and residential property owners within the CRA area towards exterior improvements to building facades. These are matching grants, which means the City will reimburse an applicant for half of what was spent, up to the maximum; Residential Façade Improvement Grants are up to $2,500 and Commercial Façade Improvement Grants are up to $5,000. MyH2O Customer Portal
My H2O web portal allows city water users to monitor their water consumption We have recently launched the "My H2O" customer portal, which works with the new smart water meters currently being installed across the city by our contractor, VEPO Metering. So far, VEPO Metering has replaced about 70 percent of the water meters in the city and we expect them to complete the replacement of all 10,000 residential and commercial water meters in the city before the end of the year. The new meters feature Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) technology, which provides more accurate readings and real-time data. If you are among the 7,000 customers who already have the new metering system, you can start taking advantage of our new “My H2O” customer portal right now. “My H2O” provides you with details about your water usage and gives you better insight into your water consumption trends on a daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly basis. With “My H2O” you can: Identify immediately if you have a water leak in your system Gain understanding of your water usage and costs through real-time monitoring Set custom alerts on water consumption to avoid billing surprises View peer comparisons to better gauge what is normal water usage Remotely monitor rental and vacation properties Modify water usage to save money Add multiple addresses/accounts to the same My H20 account The portal can be accessed from a desktop computer, tablet, or mobile phone. To get started, point your smartphone to the QR code on the image above or visit the website here to set up an account. Click “Need to set up an account” and follow the prompts. You will need your utility billing information and account number (include the dash/hyphen).
Demolition Grant Program
Callaway CRA developed the Demolition Grant Program to provide funding for qualified commercial and residential property owners within the CRA area to improve the attractiveness of properties, help eliminate conditions that have a negative impact on economic growth and encourage the siting of new businesses or homes. These are matching grants, which means the City will reimburse an applicant for half of what was spent, up to the maximum; Residential Demolition Grants are up to $5,000, Commercial Demolition Grants are up to $10,000 or $20,000 if purchased post-Hurricane Michael. Common Code Violations
The City of Callaway Code Enforcement Department enforces the following violation types. Accumulations of garbage, trash, and other materials in the yard may be a violation of Ordinance 950, Section 9.7-1 Definitions - Nuisance, which state:(1): "Any accumulation of litter, refuse, construction or demolition debris, trash, junk and other abandoned materials, metals, lumber or other things are prohibited." (13): "The term nuisance shall also include any condition or use of premises or of building exteriors which is detrimental to the property of others or which causes or tends to cause substantial diminution in the value of other property in the neighborhood in which the premises are located. This includes, but is not limited to, the keeping or depositing on or the scattering over the premises of any of the following: (a) litter, junk, trash, or construction or demolition debris; and (b) abandoned, discarded, unused objects or equipment such as, but not limited to, automobiles, furniture, stoves, refrigerators, freezers, cans or containers." High grass, weeds, and other unattended growths of vegetation may be a violation of Ordinance 950 Section 9.7-1 Definitions - Nuisance, which state:(2): "Any excessive accumulation of unattended growth of weeds, underbrush or other dead or living plant life upon an improved lot, tract or parcel of land, in the manner that such lot, tract or parcel of land shall or may become infested or inhabited with rodents, vermin or snakes, or may become a breeding place for mosquito, welfare, or may reasonably cause disease, or adversely affect and impair the economic welfare of the adjacent property are prohibited." (4): "Any weeds which exceed 1 foot in height are prohibited." Inoperative / Unregistered vehicles may be a violation of Ordinance 950 Section 9.7-1 Definitions - Nuisance and Section 15.760.12 (Land Development Regulations), which state in part:(12): "The unsheltered storage for a period of 30 days or more of automobiles not in good and safe operating condition is prohibited. This includes boats, R.V.'s, trucks, cars and all off road recreational vehicles." Section 15.760.12: "The outdoor storage of inoperative vehicles is prohibited. The LDR defines inoperative vehicles as a vehicle that does not have a current registration, a vehicle that is not in running condition or has parts missing." Requests are reviewed in accordance with the City of Fort Walton Beach's Utility Billing Adjustment Policy. Please note: Requests must be submitted within 90 days of the repair date. Annual Community Events
Annual Children's Fishing Rodeo The City of Callaway hosts this event for children 16 years old and under. It is a free event and is held at the Callaway Recreational Complex on the Saturday of Father's Day Weekend. Many local celebrities, businesses, and media come out to support us. Light refreshments are provided. Door prizes are given out, and trophies are awarded to the participants of the Children’s Fishing Rodeo in various categories. Annual Health Fair The Callaway Community and sponsors bring to you a health fair, with a twist! Join us for an educational and interactive event designed to bring you medical and health enthusiasts to one central location. This event will provide the opportunity for free health screenings, fall assessments, first aid, and more! We will also be featuring activities for the whole family to enjoy, including vendors, prizes, and games. Veterans Day Parade The City of Callaway honors its heroes, American servicemen and servicewomen, who have served and are serving our country in the five United States Armed Forces branches. The parade route will start at Berthe Ave., along Cherry St., ending at Veterans' Park each Veterans Day with a presentation of the National Anthem and the Presentation of Colors. There will also be an array of activities and food for everyone to enjoy. Annual Christmas in Callaway This event is held at the Callaway Recreational Complex on the first Friday in December. Community leaders, area schools, choirs, and the public are all invited to help us celebrate. Light refreshments are served.
Preferred Risk Policy Eligibility Extension
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) introduces a new flood insurance rating option for the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) to help reduce the financial burden placed on property owners whose buildings are newly mapped into a high-risk flood area. Special Flood Hazard Areas
In North Miami Beach, some portions of the city have been designated as a Special Flood Hazard Area by FEMA. Different parts of the city fall into different Special Flood Hazard Areas and, as such, are more or less likely to experience flooding. Community Development Department The Community Development Department of the city keeps a series of FEMA Flood Insurance Rate maps which locate the various Special Flood Hazard Areas in the city. These maps are available at the City Library, located at 1601 NE 164 Street, for reviewing by the public.
