Wes Allen, Alabama’s Secretary of State, is reminding voters of the State’s photo identification requirements to ensure a smooth and efficient voting process on Election Day. “My record on photo voter identification requirements is very clear. I have worked hard to ensure that Alabama has some of the most airtight voter ID laws in the nation, and I am proud of the work our State has done to limit voter fraud and protect the integrity of our elections,” Allen said. “Strict enforcement of photo voter ID laws are a commonsense way to help guarantee that Alabama elections remain secure, transparent, and accountable.” Alabama Code Section 17-9-30 requires all voters to present a valid form of photo identification before casting a ballot. Key requirements: Voter Registration Required: Individuals must be registered to vote in Alabama prior to Election Day. Voter registration deadlines are established by law and must be met to participate in an election. Photo ID Required: A valid photo ID is required when voting in person. Individuals who later become United States citizens must present a form of identification that is valid for voting under Alabama law. This may require obtaining a new ID, using another acceptable form of photo identification, or, if necessary, obtaining an Alabama Free Photo Voter ID. These requirements are longstanding and are intended to maintain the integrity of Alabama’s elections while ensuring that eligible voters can participate. Voters who do not possess a valid photo ID may obtain a free Alabama Photo Voter ID card through their local Board of Registrars or the Secretary of State. Wes Allen, Alabama’s Secretary of State, reminds Alabama voters of important information heading into the August 11 Special Primary Election for congressional districts 1, 2, 6, and 7. “AlabamaVotes.gov remains the best resource for voters preparing to exercise their right to vote in the August 11 Special Primary Election,” said Secretary Allen. “Alabamians can verify their congressional district and voter registration status, find their polling location, and review their county’s sample ballot so that they are fully prepared when heading to the polls.” On Election Day, polls will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters are required to present a valid form of photo identification before voting at their polling place or by absentee ballot. Election results will be posted on a door or other visible location at each polling place. Cumulative unofficial election results will be posted on the Alabama Secretary of State’s website at www.AlabamaVotes.gov. Secretary Allen extends his support and gratitude to local election officials as they work hard to prepare for the August 11 Special Primary Election. “Our elections would not be possible without the dedication of the local election officials who work tirelessly to ensure every Alabama election is conducted securely, transparently, and with accountability. I commend our probate judges, circuit clerks, sheriffs, boards of registrars, and poll workers for the important role they play in the Alabama elections process,” said Secretary Allen. Alabama Combats Trafficking (ACT) is a statewide initiative by the Alabama Secretary of State’s Office to raise awareness about human trafficking and to empower Alabama businesses in taking ACTion against trafficking. Who Can Be a Victim of Human Trafficking: Human trafficking victims can be of any age, race, ethnicity, sex, nationality, immigration status, cultural background, religion, socio-economic class, and education attainment level. Indicators of Human Trafficking: Individuals living with an employer Poor living conditions Multiple people in cramped space Inability to speak to individuals alone Answers appear to be scripted and rehearsed An employer holding identity documents Signs of physical abuse Submissive or fearful Unpaid or paid very little Under 18 and in prostitution
