A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Sumter County, effective immediately as of October 9 at 6:57 PM CDT, by the NWS Birmingham, AL. This warning is set to expire on October 10 at 3:00 AM UTC. Residents in Sumter County, specifically Livingston, should prepare for hazardous wind conditions and significant flooding.
Wind speeds are forecast to reach 10-20 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, with potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Residents should complete all property protection efforts as soon as possible and move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous. Limited damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes is possible, along with broken tree limbs and potential power outages.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 1-3 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. This could lead to moderate flooding, prompting potential evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may overflow, and floodwaters could impact structures and roadways. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life. Tornadoes are not expected at this time. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
