A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Sumter County, effective immediately from the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, Alabama, as of October 8 at 10:27 PM CDT. Residents in Livingston and surrounding areas should prepare for hazardous wind conditions and significant flooding.
The NWS forecasts peak winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Residents should complete efforts to protect property as soon as possible and move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. Sumter County can expect 3-6 inches of rain, with isolated higher amounts, leading to potential moderate flooding. This may prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries could swell, and low-lying areas are at risk of rapid inundation. Heed any flood watches and warnings. Failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life.
Damage to property, downed tree limbs, road impassibility due to debris, and scattered power outages are potential impacts. Driving conditions may become hazardous. Tornadoes are not expected, but gusty winds and thunderstorms are possible.
This Tropical Storm Watch is effective until October 9, 2026, at 6:30 AM UTC. For more information and preparedness resources, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
